Most people you talk to at some point in their life say I need to do better. I need to be a better person. So what do they usually do?
1. Go to Church
2. Volunteer somewhere
3. Donate money to a cause
4. Help people out
5. Speak nicer
7. Read the bible
8. Do a devotional
9. Join a small group
There are several different strategies one could think of to “be better”. But what does that actually mean? Do we think we can be good enough to go to heaven? Can our good deeds outweigh our sinfulness? The bible’s answer is no. Don’t get me wrong it is awesome to want to do good things, but when it leads to trying to earn grace from God, it is not good.
For the bible says, in Ephesians 2:8 ” For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works so that no one may boast”.
Literally nothing we can do by ourselves will make us worthy enough to earn grace. That is primarily why God’s grace is so beautiful because He gives it to us. It is truly a gift from Him.
He did not come to die for our sins in order that we can go from bad to good, but rather dead to alive! We were spiritually dead but with his grace he forgives us of our sins and we become saved.
