Article by a man who wanted to help preachers know how to increase decisions for Christ. He bragged that his church (and its missionaries and daughter churches) had had 19,000 decisions for Christ in the past 25 years)
“’In just a minute, I’m going to ask you all to close your eyes, so we can have a private moment. But first, look up here at the screens. In just a moment, I’m going to invite you to pray this prayer with me. You can pray it quietly, under your breath, or you can sort of repeat my words to God in your mind. Or you could just say in your heart, ‘God, that’s what I’m praying right now.’
Here’s the prayer:
‘Lord Jesus, I want to experience your mercy today. I believe that Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for my sins. I admit I’m a sinner in need of a Savior, and I’m inviting you to be mine right now. Come into my life. Forgive my sin. Live in me as my Leader from now on. I believe you are a God who is rich in mercy.’
Then we closed our eyes, which made the moment sacred and gave a sense of privacy, and I prayed the prayer out loud.
‘Okay. Bow your head with me, and pray this along with me.’ [I then prayed the prayer through again, and the words were up on the wall.]
Do you see what I did there?”
What did he do there? He manipulated his audience.
