The Purpose of the Stars

The movie “Is Genesis History?” presents an unified argument from it’s creators who think that by looking at evidences like the text of Genesis, the rocks, the fossils, the genetic code, the animals, the stars and the nature of culture, it is much more reasonable to believe the events of Genesis as real history.

According to the Bible the greatest catastrophe is the Flood. When I am thinking about this, that the whole land was covered with waters for 40 days, so that no one could survive except the people on Noah’s Arc, I am just wondering where did all that water came from, how could it cover the land(Earth) and where did it go after?

In The purpose of the Stars chapter, the fourth day of the Genesis is explained, how God created the Sun, Moon and the stars to provide energy, light and to have them serve as consistent time keepers for the humanity. I am just wondering again if it is the other way around, and they don’t exist because of us, but rather we exist because of them. It is a little hard for me to believe that the Sun, Moon and the stars only exist to serve us humans and our small planet Earth in the Universe.

In Christian views the time begins with act of creation by God somewhere around 6000 years before Christ, God rapidly created everything in a miraculous, unrepeatable fashion.

We can also look at the universe and believe that it has been in existence for millions of years, and it is in a constant process of recreating itself as everything that exists is a mere aspect of qi, which, condensed, becomes life; diluted, it is indefinite potential.

Qi is a perpetual transformation between its condensed and diluted state. These two different states of qi are embodiments of the ying and yang, two complementary extremes that constantly play against each other and cannot exist without the other.

We, humans, are the microcosmos of the universe, and the universe represents itself in each one of us. Therefore by understanding ourselves better, we will understand the universe as well.

This is based on the Taoist beliefs.

According  to Buddhism desire is the cause of sufferings, and enlightenment can be achieved by giving up the earthly  desires and following the Eightfold Path ( right view, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness and right concentration). This enlightenment is called Nirvana.

Buddhism is more focused on achieving enlightenment, cultivate the life here in this world and hereafter,  rather than trying to understand the beginning of the universe. To Buddha this issue has no religious value for gaining spiritual wisdom, such theorizing it is not necessary for living our lives in the right way. In Buddhism world systems always appear and disappear in the universe, if one wants to study this subject, then it is a must to turn to sciences, to obtain more reliable information than it can offered by a religion.

(It is an interesting approach and opinions you have in this essay. You could elaborate a little more about the Taoism and what are the Buddhist beliefs about the beginning and the end of  the universe.)
