Based on all the information I have researched and studied, it is difficult to determine about where or when the first comb existed, why did people created it, and how important it was.

It is believed that the first comb is the spine of a large fish. Even now it is still used by African people. The look of the comb is clearly reflected in the word “gombhos” in the Indo-European language, which means “tooth”, the etymology of the word “comb “in English.

The oldest combs of artifacts were excavated in the 6,000-year-old grave in Egypt. Many combs were cleverly designed. For example, some handles have toothed teeth. Some teeth in the first row are shorter and higher in the second row. Combs are used in the daily life of both men and women. Beside using combs to comb, the Egyptians also used them to plug into the desired shapes.

In the early days of Christianity, combing hair is part of a religious ritual in the same way as foot washing. The correct way to comb the hair of the priest before performing any ordinance is defined as a fixed pattern. Christian who sacrificed for the religion is buried along with his comb that made of ivory or metal. Based on evidence that many church windows in the Middle Ages that adorned with stained glass always had a comb appearance. Moreover, the comb is also associated with magic powers as well. At one time, combs had to be of special importance in symbolic terms.

In 1600s, people in many parts of Europe believed that gray hair can return to its original color if you combed the hair with a lead comb. The description of this phenomenon actually is the Low-grade lead, which is used to make combs gradually peeling hair to darker colors.

At present there are many types of combs. They have differences in materials, shapes and uses. But no one really knows what exactly why did the comb exist. All the proofs or theories are not enough to identify the real story about 5000-6000 years ago. Last, I don’t think we all will know and believe that It will always be a mystery.

  • You should use “Based on all the information I have researched and studied” instead of “From all information I have researched and studied”
  • I think that the electric hair combs information doesn’t fit in this passage.
  • I think you need a conclusion.
