How Come Jeanne d’Arc was Burned to Death although She was a Respectable Leader for the French Army – Yohko Iseki (Final Essay-FINAL)

Jeanne d’Arc was born in 1412 in Domrémy-la-Pucelle, France. She was The daughter of poor tenant farmers of Jacques d’ Arc and his wife Isabelle. Joan learned piety and domestic skills from her mom took care of the animals.  When she was just 18, she listened to divine voices which made her decision to lead the French army to victory over the English at Orléans. A year later, she was thrown off her horse and The Burgundians took her and after they negotiated with the English for months, the Burgundians exchanged Joan for 10,000 francs and later the English handed her over to church officials who said to put her on trial for heretics. She was later charged with 70 counts for witchcraft and dressing like a man. She was declared guilty of heretics and on May 30 of 1431, at the marketplace in Rouen, she was burned to death at just 19 years old. She was known for many things such as leading the French army to victory with no military training leading them through a 300 mile journey through enemy territory with only six troops and capturing the English forts around the city of Orleans and Capturing Orleans and many other cities during the hundred year war as well as becoming the Saint of the Roman Catholic Church years after she died (May 30, 1431, Rouen, France) because of her accomplishments during her life.

Agree Or Disagree

I agree with how Jeanne d’Arc lived her life and how she led the army to fight multiple times at such a young age because I think it is important to not think like everybody else in society just because everybody else thinks so, I think that it is okay to have an opinion even though it might be different from society. So I can really agree with Jeanne d’Arc doing such work that society disagreed on because she did not let societies thoughts let her down and because she did not let societies thoughts let her down, she was successful and she became a legend. She also believed in her faith until the very end which I also agree on.

Is it True? How do I Know It is True? Why should I Care? What I Learned

I believe this story is true because in her biography, it said that from a young age, she lead animals so I think that she developed leadership from doing that, and I think that how she led the French army so it would make sense that she was good at being a leader and did lead the French army to victory over the English at Orléans and I believe it is also true that she was burned alive because just like Jesus, how he had many followers, he had people that disagreed with him so they killed him and just like Jesus, Jeanne d’Arc had many followers but had just as many people that did not agree with her or did not like her and so she was called a witch and although she did not have to die if she just “admitted” that she was witch, she kept telling the truth and denying that she was a witch although she knew she was going to die in pain if she denied. People should care about this because everything that happened in history including Jeanne d’Arc leading the French army to victory over the English at Orléans contributed to what our world is like now. If  Jeanne d’Arc did not lead the French army to victory over the English at Orléans, we would not be living in the same world and that even in earlier times were there was a patriarchal society almost everywhere in the world Jeanne d’Arc still managed to become a leader of men and people should care about this because I feel like this is not very common, for us to see women being in a higher position than women which does not happen very common in history. I also feel as because Jeanne d’Arc was a woman leading an army, as a woman myself, she gives me power because she stood up for what she believed in and it makes me think even though it defies society, I should stand up for what I believe in as well. What I learned from this was that even in earlier times when males were more dominant than women and although people lived in a strictly patriarchal society, women still had the power to lead an army and have control over men and were successful at it.

In conclusion, Jeanne d’Arc is legendary for being such a young woman and going to war. I think she can be very closely compared to Jesus in a way because they both died believing in their faith. They both died as heroes, and I think what makes her very brave was that she died being hated by some surrounded by 10,000 people. She was later declared to be innocent of all charges when King Charles VII ordered for a reinvestigation.

FRIEND REVIEW BY PARDOL

Hi Yohko,

It’s ones of incredible story for young lady would lead the army only six troops in order to, get the city back. In realistically, it’s not easy for someone who can lead the army. Especially while she was 18 years old. In the story could add on why did she accomplish to lead the troop. What is the main idea of her to accomplish her goal? It’s really important for story if you can let us know more about her skill in deep details. According to, she only knows how to lead the animal. It doesn’t mean she knows how to lead the army. By the way, it’s a good story.

Thanks,

Pardol
