What is love?

Chang Woo Han

First draft

If someone were to explain my personality, they would say that I am caring, kind, and loving. What does these words exactly mean to them who told me that and what does these worlds exactly means to me? These are the things I’ve been struggling to understand; but the answer is easier than it seems.  Just as Jesus said, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” And this is how I have lived my life.

The person that taught me this meaning of love was my Girlfriend. She gave me the bible one day randomly. Because she was catholic and she loved god, thanks to her I became close to god too. Today I am thankful about everything that I have. I caring because I am grateful that god gave me the chance to meet my girlfriend. Before when bad things happened to me, I always get upset and blame Jesus why does it have to be me. Nowadays, through my girlfriend I learned that even the bad things happen for a reason. She said, “ That is the cross that you have to carry.” I did not know the meaning before but now as I go to church with her more and more, I understand that Jesus always do things for us out of love. After all, he died on the cross for us. I am kind because he has been kind to me because I have a family and a job. I was born into a loving family who raised me to be the good person I am and I can live in today society because he gave me the strength to be able to go to work and earn money .   I am loving because he loves me and gave me so many love from many people.  I learn love through them and through Jesus.

The perfect kind of love that Jesus and Mother Mary had with one another and with everyone else in the world, is the kind of love I want to have for my girlfriend and my future family. “Love is patient, love is kind” (1 Corinthians 13:4–8a)  I think the answer to their question is that. If we all do not try to hurt each other and revenge. We will know the meaning of love that Jesus want us to know .  Evil can only be overcome by love.

If someone were to explain my personality, they would say that I am caring, kind, and loving. What does these words exactly mean to them who told me that and what does these worlds exactly means to me?(When people ask me, “How can you be this kind?” or “how can you be this patient?” I struggle to find a real answer for them.)  These are the things I’ve been struggling to understand; but the answer is easier than it seems.  Just as Jesus said, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” And this is how I have lived my life.(The answer to all the questions that I had and the answer I have to everyone is this, love.)

The person that taught me this meaning of love was my Girlfriend. She gave me the bible one day randomly. Because she is catholic and she loves god, thanks to her I became close to god too. (She always talks about how she is thankful that we have met and that everything is in the hands of god. She said that our meeting was decided by Jesus but I did not understand before.)Today I am thankful about everything that I have. I( am )caring because I am grateful that god gave me the chance to meet my girlfriend. Before when bad things happened to me, I always get upset and blame Jesus why does it have to be me.(For example, when I broke up with my ex girlfriend I always think that God does not want me to create a family.) Nowadays, through my girlfriend I learned that even the bad things happen for a reason. She said, “ That is the cross that you have to carry.” I did not know the meaning before but now as I go to church with her more and more, I understand that Jesus always do things for us out of love. Last draft

If someone were to explain my personality, they would say that I am caring, kind, and loving. What does these words exactly mean to them who told me that and what does these worlds exactly means to me? When people ask me, “How can you be this kind?” or “how can you be this patient?” I struggle to find the real answer for them.  These are the things I’ve been struggling to understand; but the answer is easier than it seems.  Just as Jesus said, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” And this is how I have lived my life. The answer to all the questions that I had and the answer I have to everyone is the word love.

The person that taught me this meaning of love is my girlfriend. I have changed a lot since I met her. I would rather say, I am a kinder person, more caring, and more loving than I was before.  One day, she gave me the bible randomly because she is catholic and she loves god.  Thanks to her, I became close to god as well. She always talks about how  thankful she is that we met and that everything is in the hands of god. She said that our meeting was decided by Jesus and his Father, but I did not understand back then.  Today likewise, I am also thankful about everything that I have. I am more caring because I am grateful that god gave me the chance to meet my girlfriend. Before when bad things happened to me, I always became upset and blamed Jesus; why does it have to be me?  For example, when I broke up with my ex-girlfriend I always thought that God does not want me to have a family. Nowadays, through my girlfriend,I have learned that even though bad things happen, they happen for a reason. She said, “ That is the cross that you have to carry.” I did not know the meaning before, but now that I am going to church with her more often on Sundays.  I understand that Jesus always does things for us out of love. After all, he died on the cross for us. I am kind because he has been kind to me, because of him I have a family and a job. He decided that I shall be born and borne into a loving family who raised me to be a good person in society.  I can live in today’s society because he gave me the strength to be able to go to work and earn money .   I am loving because he loves me and i have received love from so many people.  I learned to love through them and through Jesus.

I leaned many things from my girlfriend, Jesus and bible. How to be kind to those who are not kind to me, how to love those who may not love me, and care for those who needs more than me. The perfect kind of love that Jesus and Mother Mary had with one another and with everyone else in the world, is the kind of love I want to have for my girlfriend and my future family. “Love is patient, love is kind” (1 Corinthians 13:4–8a)  I think the answer to their questions is that. If we all do not try to hurt each other and instead understand one another. And if we believe in him and talk to him through prayers.  We will know the meaning of love that Jesus want us to know.  Evil can only be overcome by love and love is the only thing we need.
