The women behind the Empire who had changed the histories of Byzantine.

“Women”, this word is not pretty much accepted in the public since the past till now a day. But do you know this word is so powerful and graceful. The world will not completely without the women, some women had changed the world, some women has revolutionized her country and some women sacrifice herself to help her people. Many histories in the world had strong and lordly women but when you think about the influential lady on 350 AD to 1500 AD I’m going to think about the women who change the histories. That is the Empress of The Byzantine Empire, Theodora. I’m going to present about three part of her life since her life before to be the empress, during married, and her life with political.

Before to be the Queen, “Theodora” was born in 497 AD, Constantinople. She is a daughter of a bear-keeper called Akakios who worked for the Hippodrome of Constantinople. she earned her living like her mother, as an actress, which show performance in the Hippodrome as an acrobat, dancer, and stripper. Theodora was said she was a courtesan and because of she is an actress and prostitute while still young, leading an unconventional life that is giving birth to at least one child out of wedlock. Before she married Justinian, Theodora left the sands of the Hippodrome to travel to North Africa as the mistress of a medium-level civil servant. After the relationship broke up, she made her way back home Alexandria where she may have converted to Christianity.

During get married, In the past, there is a tradition in the Byzantine court for emperors to marry the winners of beauty contests organized for that purpose. The competitor in contests could come from lower classes and from far away provinces so mismatches never be happening. The marriage between Theodora and a future emperor was surprise news because that situation means she will rises from poverty to wealth. The lowly status of Theodora was not ignored by people on that time, but Justin went so far as to modify the laws in order to permit the marriage and to legitimize Theodora’s child out of wedlock.

Her life and Political, Theodora use a lot of influence, even though she was never important, but because of her intelligence and political management affaire, many people think that was her rather than Justinian, who ruled Byzantium. Her name is mentioned in all of the laws that they have on that time. Her influence in political affairs was decisive, in the Nika revolt of January 532. The two political factions in Constantinople, the Blues and the Greens, joined to be opposite the government and set up an opponent emperor. Justinian’s advisers urged him to escape, but Theodora advised him to stay and tried to save his empire. Many people said on that time Theodora have power to do everything, everything that her husband had done and everything that her husband had decided that is hers. She controls everything behind Justinian.

Theodora is remembered as one of the first rulers to recognize the rights of women, she was passing strict laws to stop trading in young girls and modification the divorce laws to give greater benefits to women that they’d ever had in the entire history of the Roman Empire. She spent a lot of her times in her reign trying to relieve the laws against the miaphysites.

So, I think she is the women that you can say she has everything more than only the beauty. It not depends where were you born from but it depends what did you do while you live. I believe in this story because on that time the woman wasn’t accepted to doing or speaking everything that they want but she stands for another woman and her husband. It shows how strong was a woman.

Friend review

When I read this story, my first impression is how many women can do like Theodora. I think it should be the hard time for the women because Theodora is trying to change everything for those women that be like her, how strong is she and how difficult is it to be accepted by men. That is my question in my mind until I read the story and know Theodora’s life. I can feel why Theodora have to do like that because Theodora doesn’t grow up in a rich family, she has to do everything for her life, so, I think that why Theodora is trying to help and do everything and don’t want any women to be like her life before married. And I want to recommend about writing, I think you should talking about a story of her loving a little bit to make your story easy to read but overall is good and interesting.
